How to Apply for a diploma

The following items are mandatory:


Undergraduate degree recipients at all sites:

·         Download and print the Program Review of Studies for Graduation Form and Diploma/Commencement Application one semester before the last semester.

·         Consult current advisor for audit report to evaluate the degree plan for graduation eligibility. Student signature and academic advisor signature are required.

·         Upon graduation eligibility,submit the signed documents to Office of the Registrar.

·         Keep a copy for personal record.


Master's and doctoral degree recipients at all sites :


·         Download and print only the Diploma/Commencement Application.

·         Submit the application to current academic advisor.  

·         Keep a copy for personal record.

1.       Participants for spring commencement include:

     Fall Semester graduates who complete requirements by Dec. 19, 2014.

     Spring Semester graduates who complete requirements by May 1, 2015.

     Summer Semester graduates who complete requirements by Aug. 21, 2015.

2.       The diploma application orders a diploma and registers student for the commencement ceremony.

3.       Diploma applications must be submitted to the academic advisor for a signature; then submitted to the Graduation Coordinator at the Office of the Registrar no later than April 1.

4.       Bachelor’s degree recipients only: meet with the academic advisor to determine graduation eligibility.

5.       Master and doctorate degree recipients only: Contact your academic advisor for eligibility.

6.       All students must fulfill their financial obligations, including the $60 graduation processing fee, which is attached to the registration for ALU 499, 799, or 999.

7.       The commencement program goes to print April 1.   All diploma applications must be submitted to the Graduation Coordinator at Office of the Registrar before April 1.  Late applicants will not be listed in the program, but are welcome to participate in the ceremony.

8.       Contact  with any changes in participation in the ceremony and with any changes to the mailing address for diploma delivery.

9.       The diploma package will be mailed after the degree has been conferred by the Registrar, and all financial obligations have been met. For those not attending the ceremony, plaques and programs will also be mailed. Please allow up to 12 weeks for processing after the grades are due.

10.    Graduates recieve the one and only diploma.  Replacements at $25 each may be ordered by contacting    

11.    Graduation attire is strictly academic.  Please refrain from any additional adornment. 

     Graduation attire purchase is student responsibility;

     Gowns, caps, and tassels are all black for all students;

     Master students must have an appropriate hood for the degree;

     Doctoral students must contact the academic advisor;

2015 Baccalaureate and Commencement Overview

Baccalaureate has been observed for centuries as a way to recognize graduating students in a spiritual celebration. The University of Mary invites all students, their families and friends, faculty and staff to attend.

Commencement is a joyously spiritual celebration with family and friends to recognize academic achievement.
            Please note: Commencement does not guarantee degree completion.

Graduation: is the day the degree is conferred by the Registrar.  All students must fulfill all university, school, and departmental requirements before graduation can take place.

Student Seating: The University of Mary strongly encourages all graduates to remain at their seats throughout the ceremony out of respect for fellow graduates and guests.

Name cards: Provided by the Graduation Coordinator; All graduating students must have one.  Name cards will be located in the Linden Room at the Bismarck Civic Center the day of the ceremony.
Honors (undergraduate only):  Students who participate in the ceremony and who will have earned a GPA of 3.50 and higher by the end of seventh semester will wear an honor cord. Any changes in GPA after final grades have been posted will be reflected on the diploma and transcript. The honor cords will be available in the Linden Room of the Bismarck Civic Center the day of the ceremony along with the name card.

Concession stands: Civic Center concession stands will be open throughout the day.
