Recognizing that many clinical educators provide outstanding servant leadership and excel in the mentorship and clinical education of students, the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at UMary has established the Outstanding Clinical Educator Award.  Nominations are open to students upon completion of a clinical experience and DPT program faculty.  This document details the nomination process/criteria.

Clinical Objectives for U Mary students

This experience is placed between the first and second year of academics.   By the end of the experience, andwith the assistance of the clinical instructor, students will demonstrate theability to perform and document a comprehensive patient examination; develop aphysical therapy diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care; and completeinterventions included in the plan of care of a non-complex patient.

Students must have successfully completed the first and second academic years as well as the first clinical placement prior toinitiating the second clinical experience. The primary performance expectations for each student participating in PTH 700 are: by the end of the experience, and with the assistance of the clinical instructor, to demonstrate the ability to perform and document a comprehensive patient examination; develop a physical therapy diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care; and complete each intervention included in that plan of care of a non-complex patient. Non-complex patients are those with limited pathologies and impairments, resulting in limited functional limitations and disabilities. Students, with increased guidance from the clinical instructor, can also complete the above mentioned objectives with complex pat ients.

Students must have successfully completed the 3 academic years as well as the first 2 clinical placements prior to initiating the third clinical experience. By the end of the experience, the student will demonstrate the ability to perform and document a comprehensive patient examination; develop a physical therapy diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care; and complete each intervention included in that plan of care of simple and complex patients. The student is capable of maintaining 100% of a full-time PT’s caseload in a cost effective manner.
